JOHN P. JUERGENS
Dr. John Juergens (R.Ph., Ph.D.) has been active in wine evaluation and education for more than 25 years, and has received honors from the American Academy of Wine Communications. Dr. Juergens teaches courses on wine appreciation and has coordinated many educational wine tasting events.
He writes a regular wine column for the Oxford Town newspaper in Oxford, Mississippi, and has been a contributing wine editor for Beverage Retailer Magazine and Exclusive Living Magazine. Dr. Juergens has been a professional wine judge for more than fifteen years, and he holds the patent for a unique wine evaluation system called VIN-TEST. This is the only patented, objective wine evaluation system in the United States that is designed as a tool to assist wine consumers in selecting wines that meet their personal taste preferences.
Dr. Juergens is a Registered Pharmacist by training and is a member of the faculty of The University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy. He applies his professional skills in conducting research on a variety of alcohol and health related issues. He served for ten years as Chairman of the American Wine Alliance for Research and Education (AWARE). This is a national organization of physicians and health scientists whose purpose is to provide balanced, comprehensive information on the health effects of moderate alcohol consumption to health professionals and the beverage alcohol industry.
Dr. Juergens has also served as an alcohol and health expert delegate to the International Organization of Vines and Wines in Paris, France, and he is the chief U.S. sommelier for the wine importing company, Vin del Sol.
