In 2000 Bart decided to turn his passion for wine into a new retirement endeavor, the creation and production of a new food-friendly style of fortified wine or port. With the assistance and guidance of the many friends he has acquired over the years as a "professional" wine consumer, Bart vinted the first vintage of his varietal port in 2000. Over the next few years he attended virtually every viticulture and enology class offered at Napa Valley College and has succeeded in developing a unique style of port supported by several proprietary winemaking techniques that he developed. Today Bart's ports are recognized by many in the industry as the "benchmark" for varietal ports.
