Toucan Wines: winery information
Winemaker: Doug Timewell
After 25 years of corporate work, Doug Timewell with wife Terrie Leivers planted a 3½-acre hillside vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA and launched their winery named Toucan Wines. "We started as home winemakers in 1992 with great Zinfandel fruit". Born in Santa Barbara, Doug met Terrie and returned to their home state of California from Northern Virginia. "After nearly fifteen years of making wine on a relatively small scale, I can honestly say it’s still fun – we produce hand-crafted Zinfandel and Petite Sirah wines in very limited quantities." The family-run winery and vineyard is located next to the family home, the vineyard planted to "old clone" head-trained Zinfandel vines grafted from the Benito Dusi vineyard.

We planted 2700 Zinfandel and 300 Petite Sirah vines in our 3½-acre hillside vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley AVA. The Zinfandel budwood was sourced from the 1923 plantings at the Benito Dusi Vineyard in Paso Robles. Our warm-hot days and cool nights produce a rich colored and flavored Zinfandel that compliments food. Please enjoy our wines produced from this tiny estate vineyard.
