2009 Pinot Noir, Elk Prairie Vineyard(Humboldt County)
Winemaker Adrian Manspeaker produces a number of Pinot Noir wines and has included Pinot from the Elk Prairie Vineyard in Humboldt County in his portfolio. The vineyard is on Fruitland Ridge at 1200 feet in the southern region of Humboldt, a definite cool climate site. Soils of shale and broken rock dominate amidst the surrounding redwood forests. A combination of 50% Pomard and 50% Martini clones of Pinot Noir comprise this wine.
The future of southern Humboldt County could well ride on Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir that definitely shows a different aspect of California. The 2009 rendition by Joseph Jewel shows the traits of this region very well. Enjoy with foods that need acidity to fully complement the meal.
