Bargetto Winery
2006 Sauvignon Blanc(Monterey County)
Interestingly enough, the nose on this wine has a lovely Riesling-like white-gloved, automotively inclined come-on: Yes,there is a distinctive and attractive bit of petrol. Along with fuselly hints, there are sufficient tropical juicyfruit aromas to prepare you for a rich style of wine. And that’s where it gets interesting.
All those tropical promises are not quite met on the palate: and that’s a good thing, as Sauvignon Blanc should be lean, limey and racy, at least in my book. The flavors in Bargetto’s Sauvignon Blanc are divine, with key lime, apricots, peaches and nectarines, plus some very fine crisp pears in the core. This is a juicy, wonderful libation that never gives up its nefariously nectarine-infused personality. On the long and lovely finish, you might also find some graceful quince, along with a pleasing finalé of distinctive mineralé.
