Forlorn Hope
2011 Batiscafo, DeWitt Vineyard(Amador County)
They have been growing grapes in the Sierra Foothills since the gold rush, or before, and Zinfandel became the folk lore of the region. In more recent times this region, and notably Amador County, has taken a wide range of varietals to heart. Some more obscure than others.
Forlorn Hope sources Verdelho from a unique hillside vineyard along Fiddletown Road. Winemaker Matthew Rorick has taken to personal attention of this block and the results show.
Singing the virtues of acidity and varietal flavors with a bit of lime on the finish and background texture that spells substance.
A food wine or a wine to enjoy on a summer evening at sunset.
