Forlorn Hope
2010 La Gitana, Silvaspoons Vineyard(Alta Mesa ~ Lodi)
Grown on top of a sandstone shelf in the Silvaspoons Vineyard this is a rare, if not only, planting of Torrontes in California. Add to that it is one of the first appellated wines to the newly formed Alta Mesa - Lodi AVA and you have an intriquing wine of place. Fermented naturally on indigenous yeasts and ML fermentation inhibited, the wine is pale to straw in color with tremendous aromatic qualities lifting from the glass. Given Torrontes is considered a cross of Muscat of Alexandria and Mission, background muscat aromatics are present. On the palate the wine is very fresh with clean acidity and nuances of grapefruit and other citrus rhine yet it is well rounded and soft. Great match with seafood, scallops and foods that are complimented with citrus flavors.
