2005 Sauvignon Blanc, Paragon Vineyard(Edna Valley)
A new brand from the Edna Valley Niven Family (Baileyana, Edna Valley Vineyard), tangent was created expressly for white wines other than Chardonnay, each bargain priced.
The grapes were grown in the Niven’s cool climate estate vineyard planted in 1973, which they boast is the oldest Sauvignon Blanc vineyard south of Napa Valley. Winemaker Christian Roguenant describes this wine as a blend of Sancerre and New Zealand styles. He harvests at different ripeness levels to bring in grapes with higher acid for citrus and herbal notes, and riper fruit to add tropical notes and a round mouthfeel. The lots are fermented separately, with no malo-lactic fermentation or oak, then blended before bottling.
The wine is refreshing, offering bright, tangy flavors of grapefruit and Pippin apple which meld with interesting notes of melon, grass and herbs. This classic Sauvignon Blanc drinks deliciously alone and complements everything from Thai and Chinese to sassy Creole. A very good buy at only $13 retail.
