Ledgewood Creek Winery & Vineyards
2005 Chardonnay(Suisun Valley)
In 1985 Dean and Bunny Frisbie bought a pear orchard in the Suisun Valley. By 1989, as in so many other parts of California, a vineyard had replaced the orchard and in 2002 Ledgewood Creek released its first wine. Today 350 acres are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Roussanne, Chardonnay, Grenache, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Consulting winemaker Larry Langbehn works with the couple, who insist on hand harvesting all fruit.
The area has a long history in grape growing, and, for the last twenty years, has enjoyed its status as an AVA, but it is still very much in the shadow of neighboring Napa Valley. While Chardonnay and Chenin Blanc are great successes here, Rhone varietals are starting to come onto the radar as the next potential “signature” of the local wine industry.
Bright yellow gold and viscous, this refreshing, lively Chardonnay has classic notes of butter, pear, pineapple, toasted almond, nougat, marzipan, and oak char. Medium bodied with balanced oak, fruit, and alcohol, it is seamless, elegant, and extremely appealing all around. It has a long, pleasant finish with butter and bosc pear notes.
