The San Miguel District is the northern most region of Paso Robles AVA and sits around the town of San Miguel. Topography is the footslope of Santa Lucia Range, with alluvial terraces of the Salinas and Estrella Rivers and small recent alluvial fans. Elevations range 580 - 1,600 feet.

Soils are deep alluvial sandy loams to loams to a few clay loams. Some areas with clay pans exist from the river bottoms up onto the higher terraces.
