Simi Winery |
Giuseppe and Pietro Simi, Tuscany natives, came for the California gold rush. They made wine from Alexander Valley grapes in Healdsburg in 1876. In 1881 they moved to the winery’s historic stone cellars, built from native basalt dug from the hillside. In 1904, tragically, both brothers died. Giuseppe's daughter, Isabelle, took over at age eighteen and kept the winery going even through prohibition. In 2003, following the tradition of great winemakers before him, Steve Reeder took over as head winemaker.
