Red Rooster Winery
2005 Riesling(Okanagan Valley)
This winery was established by a couple from Switzerland who kept pet chickens – hence the peculiar name. Last year, they sold it to Andrés Wines Ltd., the largest Canadian-owned wine company. Andrés has been giving winemaker Richard Kanazawa the additional resources needed to make wines up to the splendour of the showcase winery that the Swiss had built. But so far, nothing has been spent updating the web site.
This wine is surprising because Red Rooster is not known for Riesling. Yet here is a delicious wine with aromas of apples and apricots, leading on to flavours of citrus and peach, with lime flavours on the finish. A touch of residual sugar ensures the popularity of this wine. 86 points.
