Cobblestone Vineyards
2002 Cabernet Sauvignon(Atlas Peak ~ Napa Valley)
This wine has luscious dark fruit with a minerality that is reminiscent of the Atlas Peak region. The wine is also well-balanced with complexity and richness. Simply put, it’s a stunner with a good price, too -- $39. There is also weight to the body with a substantial texture for drinking now, but it has the backbone to last for a good 15 years.
The 100 percent Cabernet comes from the estate’s 1,800-foot Levine vineyard and from 8-year-old vines. The wine wasn’t filtered nor fined; and it spent 22 months in French oak barriques, half of which was new. The listed alcohol is 14.9 and there were 1,150 cases produced.

Not once has he used a point system, star system, or an iconic symbol to quantify a wine. What counts in Mr. Goldfarb’s criteria when judging a wine is: how it tastes in the glass; is it well-constructed; its food compatibility; and presence of redeeming regional attributes. |
