Holly's Hill Winery
2009 Mourvedre Classique(El Dorado)
Without a doubt Mourvedre is alive and well in El Dorado. Many of the vineyards are located in the Pleasant Valley region of the appellation, roughly hovering around 2,700 feet in elevation in the Sierra. Holly's Hill has clearly taken the grape near and dear with several offerings. The 2009 Mourvedre Classique is exactly that, classic to this region, with three vineyard blocks blended to create this wine. Earthy aromatics with hints of forest floor and cedar follow into dark berry fruits and herbal nuances on the palate. Well structured but soft tannins and acidity bring a spicy black pepper tone to a smooth and pleasant finish. Hearty fare, wild game, will pair very well.
