Shale Peak Vineyards
2009 Toscano di Solano(Solano County)
Sangiovese has found a home in the arid dry climes of far northeastern Solano County in the Pleasants Valley area. Sourced off the slopes of Putman Peak a field blend driven by two clones of Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon from one vineyard were co fermented on native yeasts. Small portions of Petite Sirah and Gamay Noir were brought to the blend later. The result is excitement on the palate. Classic cherry flavors of Sangiovese are enhanced with dark fruit character from Cabernet. Acidity and sturdy tannin with the expected grip work into a lively mouth feel and support a long finish. This wine pairs well with red sauce dishes from pasta to chicken or a great steak.
