Schug Carneros Estate Winery
2005 Chardonnay Heritage Reserve(Carneros ~ Los Carneros)
Schug’s Heritage Reserve wines were developed to showcase the “best barrels of the vintage.” They blend only the “most complex fruit” from individually selected vineyards, claiming that each personally selected component contributes a signature quality to the blend. After hearing these bold statements, expectations were quite lofty for the 2005 Schug Heritage Reserve Chardonnay; and every one of those expectations were pleasantly met!
This is a true Reserve wine- showing class, nuance and beautiful balance. The quintessential dinner party wine, it will wow your guests on its own but step aside to brilliantly complement your food. It opens with an enticing nose of fresh stone fruit, pear and lemon all complemented by an underlying toastiness. Don’t worry however, if you are not the oaked Chardonnay type, the oak on the nose is as aggressive as it gets. As soon as the wine hits your palate you are delighted with zesty citrus, pineapple and crisp green apple. Dazzling, “complex” Carneros fruit is the backbone of this chardonnay. The balance is so well done, like us, you may finish the bottle before you come up with your own tasting notes!
