2002 Baco Noir(Nova Scotia)
The ability of Baco Noir to manifest itself as a bulky brute has seen it in recent vintages muscle its way into the limelight of Nova Scotian reds -- a position long held by Marechal Foch.
This example from Jost won’t tip the scales for sheer extract, but it is by no means a light weight. In the glass it displays a medium intensity of vibrant red-blue color. A big forthcoming nose bursts with dark fruit essences complemented by camphor and sandalwood spice. The largeness of the fruit carries through to the palate which is medium bodied and perfectly balanced with bright acidity and fine velvety tannins. The wine finishes long with a final reminder of exotic spice.
Drinking great 3 years after vintage but this wine has the concentration of flavour components and an acid/tannin structure to see it develop over the next 3-5 years in bottle.
