Couderc Noir Grape Details

Couderc Noir

Widely planted in France, this hybrid resulted from the combination of a Vitis rupestris-lincecumii with an unidentified Vitis vinifera. Generally, Couderc Noir makes a dark red, berry-flavored juice, and produces rosé wines that are somewhat age worthy and appropriate for blending. The grape's value in North America is limited as it ripens too late to be of use in the cool climate vineyards of the Northeastern states and Upper Mid-West. Further, in viticultural regions with warmer climates able to fully ripen the grapes other more marketable and noble varieties are planted.
